“The Charlie Parker Jazz Festival annually assembles some of the finest musicians in the world who reflect Parker’s musical individuality and genius, to promote appreciation for this highly influential and world-renowned artist. The two days of free concerts take place in neighborhoods where Charlie Parker lived and worked, in Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park on August 27 and the Lower East Side’s Tompkins Square Park on August 28. On both days, the music starts at 3:00 p.m.”

In today’s podcast Anthony Cekay again joins the RS Berkeley crew, Les Silver and Todd Feldman, along with mouthpiece craftsman Aaron Drake to discus their collaboration on the Legend Series of saxophone mouthpiece. In conjunction with the families of the respective saxophonists, the collaboration has so far produced exact replicas of mouthpieces played by Stan Getz and Charlie Parker with a Johnny Griffin model in the pipeline. They discuss how the mouthpiece project came into being; how Les first came to find the mouthpieces; Aaron’s design process; and more.
